This chinoiserie bird painting includes 3 songbirds, a Chinoiserie butterfly and camellia flowers. “Blue and Far Between” has companion pieces as well. Camellias flower early in the season and enjoy woodland settings. Growing up in North Carolina these were one of her most favorite flowers. All the songbirds are painted in a Modern Chinoiserie style.
Chinoiserie painting is a considered a European interpretation of East Asian decorative arts. However, Allison puts her lighter touch on her pieces. Comparatively, she paints in a looser style with a more modern palette. Additionally, she is inspired by the scientific illustrations of James Audubon. Her signature tiny brushstrokes used for feathers and flower centers will have you looking closely again and again.
