“Smitten Pretty 1 & 2″ is the perfect pair of Staffordshire dogs for your Chinoiserie Grandmillennial home. This diptych is painted in a modern Chinoiserie chic style.
Staffordshire dog figurines were typically placed on mantles of 18th century homes. Seated in pairs, they also adorned windowsills, hutches and sideboards. Staffordshire dogs are a staple of the modern Chinoiserie home. These spaniels were extremely popular in England during the 18th century because British royalty was particularly fond of the King Charles Spaniel. They are also known as Wally dugs and still popular today especially with Grandmillennial lovers.
These charming dogs face each other. The left Staffordshire spaniel is surrounded by red geraniums and a yellow and red variegated tulip stem. A lovely dark gray Chinoiserie butterfly rests on tip of the tulip bloom. The dog figurine on the right is also surrounded by geraniums and at its feet, a large yellow peony bloom. Both Staffordshire dogs have sweet lashes, soft brown spots and tiny whisker freckles. The playful pattern in the background is hand painted with hundreds of tiny brush strokes.
Each painting is 20″ X 20” and acrylic on wood.
